Ford believes it shares a big role in helping communities both in the United States and around the world become happier and healthier places. That’s why the manufacturer puts such a large emphasis on volunteering and charitable giving. Keep reading to discover some of the important ways Ford gives back to the community.

Helps Victims of Hurricane Harvey
When Hurricane Harvey hit Texas in August 2017, Ford Motor Company and local dealers immediately took action to help victims recover. The company donated $500,000 to charities like the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army to help with disaster relief efforts. Additionally, Texas-area Ford dealers pledged to raise over $1 million to help local charities and dealership employees, and Ford said it would match this effort up to a total of $1.5 million.
Offers Ford Driving Skills for Life Program
The Ford Driving Skills for Life Program is a free, hands-on training program available to teen drivers. It focuses on helping teens develop the essential skills they need to safely detect and avoid some of the most common driving hazards. This includes how to scan ahead for trouble, the right ways to accelerate and brake, how to recover from a skid, emergency braking techniques, how to avoid head-on crashes and being rear-ended, the dangers of distracted driving, and more.
Provides Scholarships to Students
In an effort to help today’s students get the education they need, Ford awarded nearly $100,000 in scholarships to over 140 Detroit-area high school students as part of its Blue Oval Scholars program. Since the beginning of the program, Ford has awarded almost $1 million in scholarships to over 1,000 students. The program encourages students to show improvement in their academics and overall school performance and to pursue their educational goals after high school.
Participates in Ford Global Caring Month
September is Ford’s Global Caring Month, and this year thousands of Ford employees in 38 countries used their energy and skills to make people’s lives better around the world. Projects included refurbishing a homeless shelter in the United Kingdom; building schools, home, and shelters in Mexico; installing water tanks at a camp for underprivileged children in Australia; creating environmental education programs and community gardens in China; and more. In the United States, Ford employees in 24 states volunteered their time to work in their communities.
Helps Expand the IWitness Educational Program
Ford is teaming up with USC Shoah Foundation to help expand the IWitness educational program in the Detroit area. This annual program invites students from across the country to bring positive change to their communities. They are then asked to create a video that explains how they brought positive value to their communities. Ford’s sponsorship will help support the challenge and go toward prize money in the form of scholarships for the winners.
Ford hopes that not only will its efforts help create stronger communities, they will also encourage other people to volunteer their time and skills to causes that are important to them.
