Spend the Day at Space Center HoustonWhether you’ll be visiting Houston or you’re a local, Space Center Houston should be at the top of everyone’s to-do list this summer. It’s the perfect trip for all ages. If you have a budding scientist in your family or just an interest in space travel, Space Center Houston is one of the most entertaining and educational ways to spend a day.

Permanent Exhibits

Space Center Houston has a fantastic display of permanent and special exhibits that ignite imaginations and create wonder. Get the chance to explore real spacecraft that have flown through space at the Starship Gallery. Examine real gear worn by astronauts at the Astronaut Gallery. There are many temporary exhibits at the museum that showcase things like images taken from space, weather phenomena, pop-up science labs, and more.

Mission Mars

Head over to Mission Mars to see what it’s going to take to get the first humans to the Red Planet. Learn about what life may be like on Mars, what the planet itself looks like, and how scientists think we will get there. Get the chance to touch a rock from Mars, as well as other meteorites.

Independence Plaza

In Independence Plaza, you’ll be able to enter a 905 shuttle carrier aircraft, which is a large plane mounted by a space shuttle. The plaza is an international landmark and it the only aircraft-mounted shuttle that the public can enter. This aircraft is the largest artifact of the shuttle program and provides a unique look into a major part of space travel’s history.

Special Events

The Space Center holds events throughout the year that everyone will enjoy. Attend the Starlight Social to enjoy drinks, music, and dancing while trying out food made for astronauts, and learning about life in space. The “Space on Screen” series showcases movies about space and space travel. The Thought Leader Series features presentations about the future and history of space travel from well-known people.

There are special events held every month throughout the year, so time your visit accordingly.

Educational Programs

If you want to give your kids one of the most unforgettable experiences of their lives, the educational programs at the Space Center are top-notch. Who didn’t dream of going to space camp as a kid? At the Space Center, their Space Center U program lets student experience life as an astronaut, engineering feats like rockets and rovers, and much more. There are sections for all ages 11 and up, but space is limited, so register as soon as you can.

In addition to the Space Center U program, the museum also holds many others. Overnight stays for Girl and Boy Scouts, the Stars & STEM program that engages students K-12 in STEM activities, Explorer Camps, and more. There are always opportunities for students to learn at Space Center Houston.

Make sure to set aside a good chunk of time for your visit to Space Center Houston. There’s so much to explore and learn, that you’ll find it’s easy to spend the entire day dreaming of the cosmos.
