Buffalo Bayou Park
Located off of Allen Parkway, the Buffalo Bayou Park has lighted areas open from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., with other areas staying open from dawn till dusk. When arriving at the park, you will have multiple parking options to choose from including Allen Parkway, Memorial Drive, The Water Works, and other surrounding public streets.
Buffalo Bayou Park is over 160 acres and is one of the most significant urban green spaces in the country. You will be able to find places to have a picnic, go for a stroll, ride a bike, or take your dog for an outing. You will be able to enjoy the fantastic fresh air as well as waterway views throughout your Buffalo Bayou Park excursion.
Spotts Park
Spotts Park spans 16.24 acres and is located in the center of Houston between Memorial and Waugh streets. The unique park is located in a natural bowl in the downtown Houston area and is home to a children’s playground, walking trails, basketball and volleyball courts, and a picnic area. Spotts is a favorite location for joggers and those who like to take a relaxing afternoon away from the hustle and bustle of city life. If you are looking to get a little workout, the park also boasts a tennis court and gym bar workout area.
Friends of Woodland Park
Enjoy some fresh air and natural surroundings at the Friends of Woodland Park. Located on Parkview Road, the park makes an excellent spot for novice and experienced birdwatchers alike. You can become a park member with a donation, and will have access to the amazing programs that the park has to offer.
You can take part in such events as Bird Watching with the Houston Audubon, where you can join a group of like-minded bird watchers for a fun-filled bird watching adventure. If you are not an avid birdwatcher, there are still plenty of ways for you to connect with nature. You can take a hike along one of the park’s trails or enjoy a leisurely walk to take note of the vast variety of trees and plants in the area.
At Friends of Woodland Park, adults and children alike can enjoy many of nature’s reptile, mammal, and fish species. The park is home to alligators, turtles, snakes, rabbits, coyotes, catfish, carp, and many more animals to watch and enjoy on your visit.
Escape the crowded streets of the city and reconnect with nature by enjoying some fresh air at one of the parks located in the Houston area.
