If you’ve never tried to find parking around the NRG Stadium for a Texans game — it isn’t fun. Do your homework before you head out on game day to find the best place to park for what you’re looking for. Here are a few ideas.

NRG Park

Arguably, one of the best places to park for a Texans game is at the NRG Stadium itself — but probably only if you plan on tailgating. If you show up on time for the game, you’ll always be late. But the parking lots at NRG open four hours before kickoff, so if you get there early enough, you can grill and relax before the game. Keep in mind that you will need a parking pass, and they don’t accept cash at the gate. Once the game is over, though, it will likely take you a while to get out. But for die-hard tailgaters, there is no better spot.

Fannin South Transfer Center

One of the best prices for parking near the stadium is at the Fannin South Transfer Center at 1604 W. Belfort Avenue. It’s a metro station that costs around $15 to park at before riding the rail to the stadium for $1.25. The parking lot is open 24 hours, 7 days a week, so you don’t have to worry about getting your car back once the game is over.

You’ll take the rail north for less than 5 minutes, and then walk about half a mile to the stadium. This is another popular parking area for Texans fans, so make sure you give yourself a little extra time.

6750 Main St.

At 6750 Main St., you’ll find a valet parking garage that offers competitive rates for parking. On gameday, the prices hike up to $25 or more, but your car is protected while you’re at the stadium.

This parking garage is 2.5 miles away from the stadium, so you may want to consider a ride-share service if you’re not up for the walk.

Downtown Transit Center

There are plenty of parking garages in downtown Houston, and you won’t have to fight hordes of fans for them. It’s a ways from the stadium, but that’s where the metro comes in. Fighting the NRG Park traffic is not fun, so just head downtown, have a drink before the game, explore a bit, and then hop on the metro an hour before the game.

The ride and walk to the stadium will take around an hour, so give yourself enough time before kickoff. If you don’t want to be on the rail that long, park somewhere closer. We suggest looking at a map of the rail’s stations to find the one that works best for you.

Your options for parking on game day are extensive, and some are better than others. The closer you get to the stadium, the longer it will take you to get out. Just give yourself enough time to get to the stadium before kickoff. Go Texans!
