We all love a weird and wonderful attraction every now and again, and Houston, Texas, is chock full of them. Here are just a few of our favorites!

National Museum of Funeral History

This strange attraction garners a lot of interest. Who knew that funerals had such a long and fascinating history, one that was big enough to be documented in a national museum?
The National Museum of Funeral History has different types of coffins, old-style hearses, and tombs. There is a collection of artifacts and funeral programs from different celebrities including JFK’s original eternal flame. You can also learn about embalming from the adjacent embalming school.

Art Car Museum

The Art Car Museum will have you looking at motor vehicles in a totally different way. Cars are used in different exhibits to create truly incredible works of art. The museum has been promoting car art since 1988.
You’ll see everything from colorful bicycles to cars that look like they’ve come straight out of the Transformers movies. It’s a fun afternoon that the whole family will enjoy, even those that may not be the usual art museum type.

Beer Can House

The Beer Can House is a true sight to behold. The house’s original owner, John Milkovisch, loved beer. It’s said that he would drink a six-pack of cans a day and he never threw a single one away. Once he retired in the 1960’s, he slowly began a project which would end with the entire exterior of his house being covered in beer cans. He even built a fence, wind chimes, and curtains out of the remaining cans.
Now you can walk past and take photos of this one-of-a-kind house right in downtown Houston. During the summer months, you can actually go inside the house and see what else Milkovisch used the cans for.

Eclectic Menagerie Park

You’ll be able to spot this park’s gigantic sculptures from Highway 288, which is all you can do because they are located on the private property of the Texas Pipe and Supply Company.
That being said, it is still a popular place to check out, even if from afar. There are 26 works of enormous art in the Eclectic Menagerie Park. All of them were created by artist Ron Lee, whose art studio is within the park. Look for the oversized daddy long legs and King Kong hanging from a crane. As you drive along the highway you definitely won’t miss what looks like low-flying planes. Not to worry, they’re just sculptures!

The Orange Show

The Orange Show is one of the weirdest and most wonderful outdoor art installations in the country. Built between 1956 and 1979 by a single man, The Orange Show is a 3,000 square foot monument which is more like a maze. There’s a wishing well, a pond, a museum, a stage, a gift shop, and an oasis.
Houston is a great city with tons of museums and art galleries, theme parks and restaurants, but sometimes you want to do something different. For those times, check out one of these strange attractions.
