Maintaining your vehicle’s health is important to you as a driver. You may be wondering how you will know that your vehicle needs something. Dashboard lights can be your guide to needing service or other functions of your vehicle being activated.

Trouble Indicators

The following indicators will display when serious trouble or fault is indicated by the vehicle. This can usually be to the main components of the vehicle.

• Engine Temperature Indicator – When this indicator light displays in red, it means the engine temperature is too high. You should stop the vehicle and turn off the engine as soon as possible.
• Oil Warning Light – This indicator displays when your oil level is low. This indicator can also display with a wavy line below it, indicating that oil pressure is low. Regardless of which displays, you should have your oil level checked.
• Brake Trouble Indicator – If this indicator is displayed, it means there could be a serious problem with your brakes. However, this light is also what displays if your emergency brake is engaged. If you have your emergency brake in the proper position and not engaged, and this light still displays, you will want to go for service immediately.

Common Indicators

• Seat Belt Reminder – This indicator will display when one or more passengers does not have their seat belt fastened.
• Low Fuel Indicator – This light displays when your fuel tank is low, and you are in need of re-fueling.
• Door Ajar Indicators – This light will display if one or more doors are currently open on the vehicle. This alerts you to ensure that all doors are completely secure before you start your travels.

Fault Indicators

• Check Engine Light – This light can mean a variety of things. It can be as simple as your gas cap being loose, or it can be a more serious issue with your engine. When this light displays, you should schedule an appointment for your vehicle to be diagnosed.
• Stability Control Indicator – This light displays when your vehicle detects slippery conditions and activates stability or traction control. If this light starts flashing, it means the vehicle is working to keep your ride stable and in control.
• Tire Pressure Monitor Indicator – This light displays when the tire pressure is low on one or more tires. It means that the tire pressure has reduced 25 percent or more and you should add air to your tires.
